Anthony Brites of RKE Hitting is a Mike Epstein Certified Hitting Instructor. If you are not familiar with Mike Epstein you should be, he was mentored and coached by non other than Ted Williams. Anthony has been chosen to be our hitting coordinator not because of his playing experience, he was chosen because his approach to hitting instruction is second to none on Long Island. Anthony believes the use of video is the only way to create a great hitter and also teaches the hitting mechanics used by today’s most productive hitters and by 95% of the players in the Hall of Fame. Mike Cardino's contributions to travel baseball should not be measured by wins and losses but rather by his relentless and unselfish dedication to the players he has coached and managed throughout his 20 years of being involved in the game that is considered America’s favorite pastime. Mike played High School baseball and senior men’s baseball for 20 years. In 2000, he gave up the love for personally playing and managing those teams in which he played on, to concentrate on Massapequa’s International Little League Williamsport Travel Team and became a Board member for MILL.
To further enhance his baseball knowledge, Mike has consistently attended the World’s Baseball Coaches Convention for the past 14 years as well as the Cal Ripken Coaches Clinic at Hofstra University and the ABCA College coaches conventions.
Mike was the Head Baseball Coach and Director of Baseball Operations for LI Braves, from 2004 thru 2011 where he was very successful in leading his team and Braves organization. During his tenure with the LI Braves, Mike has a very high winning percentage at the tournament level winning or a runner-up in many Long Island as well as out of state tournaments. To his credit, 15 of his Braves players have gone on to Division I, II & III colleges. He is well known among his peers for his knowledge of the game and dedication to all his players. One of Mike’s strongest traits is making players believe in themselves and perform to best of their ability.
In 2012 Mike started his own organization called Diamond Spikes Baseball where he and his Partner (Bill Faust) run a very successful travel organization. Diamond Spikes is still going strong and hoping for another successful summer/fall season for 2017.
Mike Cardino just finished his 10th season as Baseball Coach at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville, Long Island, since his arrival in 2007; wins have doubled at the freshman level each year he coached. In 2012, Mike guided his freshman team to a 17 win & 5 loss record, capturing a playoff record of 3 wins and no losses advancing the freshman team to the CHSAA Championship Game. In 2015 Mike was promoted to the JV Team as Head Coach and won the Catholic League Championship. After one season as Jv HC Mike was asked to move up to the Varsity teams were he has been for 2 years now. Mike Has recently accepted the position as Assistant Coach at SUNY Old Westbury College.
In the past Mike was recognized for his hard work and dedication by the Boys of Summer Travel Baseball League Board of Directors. Along with this recognition, he was honored at Citi Field on August 29, 2012 and received the Spirit Service Award from the New York Mets Organization and Boys of Summer Travel Baseball League. His passion for baseball remains a priority in his life
John Byrne: Attended Plainedge HS where he was the closer for the 1988 LI Champions. John then went on to attended Mitchell College JC where he was ranked 2nd in the North East with a 6-2 record and a 2.04 ERA. He then transferred to Adelphi University where he was a reliever with a 3.02 ERA over a 2 year span. John started training pitchers in 2002 and has concentrated on the use of proper mechanics to better location and velocity. John has had 2 of this pitchers drafted in the past 2 years. John was the Pitching Coach for the LI Titans 16U Gold for 2007 and 2008. In 2007, the Titans won the North East Regional Championship. In 2009, he coached the LI Blue Demons 13U team where the won the Boys of Summer League Championship.
Rob Cafiero At Hofstra- As a senior 2013-2014..Batted .331 with 15 doubles and 2 home runs while receiving All-CAA Honors as a catcher As a junior 2012-2013..Batted .270 with 17 RBIs…Scored 33 runs and tallied 13 stolen bases…Drew nine walks and compiled 11 extra-base hits (10 doubles and a triple)…Posted a 10-game hitting streak
Attended New York Tech in Old Westbury, New York, as a freshman in 2010-11…All-Great West Conference second team selection…Batted .310 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs and 32 RBIs…Had a .451 average in conference play…Spent the 2011-12 academic year at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina…All-Region X selection as a catcher after batting .385 with 20 doubles and 48 RBIs…Helped team to Carolinas-Virginia Conference, Region X Tournament and the Southeast District championships and a berth in the Junior College D-II World Series.
Steven Morse: Coach Morse was hired in June of 2016 at SUNY Ulster, taking over a Baseball program that finished 12-19 the previous season. He was previously an Assistant Coach at SUNY Brockport for two seasons, primarily working with hitters and infielders, where he helped lead the program to a playoff birth and a 43-37 overall record in the SUNYAC.
Coach Morse is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, where he was a standout athlete for the Baseball program. He finished his career Fourth All-Time in Assists and was an All Conference Selection as a senior, when he lead the team in Batting Average, On Base Percentage, and Total Bases. Coach Morse holds a Masters Degree from SUNY Brockport in Athletic Administration and a Bachelors in Communications from SUNY New Paltz.
Gary Rich .Gary is a 20 year veteran of Long Island Baseball. For the past 7 years Gary had spent the summers managing at the collegiate level. Gary has been instrumental in developing College Baseball players and building the foundation for successful summer Collegiate baseball on Long Island. In his playing days Gary was an All County Baseball player at New Hyde Park Memorial.
Scott Hicok Scott has been an active coach of youth sports for over 22 years in the tristate area. Scott's playing and coaching experience covers all sports and all levels. He has coached CYO, little league, Babe Ruth, American Legion, High School and Showcase travel teams in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Scott also attended and spoken at numerous leadership and sports conferences over the years and is a member of the ABCA.
In 2012, after running a successful travel team for three years, Scott joined the then Long Island Braves. Scott stayed on as a Coach, alongside Coach Cardino and Coach Faust, as the team transitioned into the Diamond Spikes. In 2014, Scott took over the role of Recruitment Coordinator for the Diamond Spikes and has since helped over 25 high school athletes move on to play college Baseball. He also helped coordinate player showcases, camps and tryouts, as well as helped develop the team's very successful winter training program.
